They envisioned a luxurious steam room renovation, bringing a spa-like retreat into the comfort of their own home. Our client visited our Edinburgh showroom seeking inspiration and ideas for their new steam room renovation. After browsing our displays and detailed installations, they knew we were the right team to bring their vision to life.
Design Brief
With a desire for a sleek, modern look, our client approached us to convert their bathroom into a steam room. Their vision included a spacious shower area that doubles as a steam room, offering the ultimate combination of long. Our client wanted a bold yet calming colour palette, ample storage to maintain a clutter-free space, and a fully tiled room that combines durability with elegance.
Bathroom Survey
We surveyed to evaluate the feasibility of their ideas and the overall scope of the renovation. We recommended reimagining the space with a more open and practical layout, which the client was eager to consider. Our informal conversations during the survey also helped us understand their needs, preferred colour palette, and how they envisioned using the space. With these insights, we designed a bespoke steam room that truly reflects their lifestyle and needs.
Steam room design
Our designers reimagined the layout, placing the steam room at the far end to create a spacious, dedicated zone. We incorporated a bespoke seating area within the steam room to enhance comfort during long showers and steam sessions. We positioned the vanity on the left, with the WC beside it, to ensure convenient access while keeping the central space open and uncluttered. We fully tiled the bathroom throughout, exactly as our client envisioned.

We presented the design to our client using virtual reality, allowing them to experience the layout, colour scheme, and brassware in their true-to-life scale and finish. This immersive preview helped them make confident, informed decisions about their new steam room. They were delighted with the proposal, requested a few minor adjustments, and then approved the design for installation.
Our Approach and Product Selection.
The shower system showcases a sleek combination of a shower head, a mounted shower arm, and a wall outlet in brushed gunmetal, adding a refined touch to the space. For the steam room renovation, we chose the Novellini adjustable pivot door, which provides wide and convenient access. Its design also ensures steam is retained efficiently, completing the upgrade with both style and functionality. For the vanity area, a single-drawer, wall-mounted unit in natural oak brings warmth and texture. It is complemented by a large backlit mirror that enhances brightness and gives a clean, modern look.
The Geberit flush plate and Duofix system, paired with a round rimless WC, create a seamless and highly efficient setup. For the main bathroom, we selected Ca’ Pietra Rainforest tiles for their durability, bold colour, and striking natural pattern, adding depth and character to the space. In the steam room, we chose Ca’ Pietra Kinfolk porcelain tiles, offering a modern aesthetic with long-lasting durability.
Steam Room Installation
Our plumbing team adjusted the hot, cold, and drainage services to suit the new layout and installed the wet floor system, sanitaryware, heated towel rail, mirror, and accessories. The joinery work involved re-plasterboarding affected walls and constructing the Hammam seating area from timber and plasterboard, including the door opening. We also prepared the floor for the wet room system, fitted new door and window facings. Our joiners added supports for fixtures and dropped the ceiling in the steam area, finishing it with a wet-wall panel and a bulkhead for a clean, refined look.
Our plumbing team realigned the hot, cold, and drainage services to suit the new layout before installing the wet floor system, sanitaryware, heated towel rail, mirror, and accessories. Our joiners added reinforcement for all fixtures and lowered the ceiling in the steam area, finishing it with a wet wall panel and a clean, streamlined bulkhead.
Our tilers prepared the surfaces and installed all wall tiles to full height, with floor tiles laid over a Wedi-insulated subfloor for added stability and insulation. The shower area was waterproofed, including taped joints and recessed work finished with black profile trim for a modern look. We installed all tiles vertically, grouted and polished them with precision, and added underfloor heating for comfort.
The electrical works included installing LED downlights, under-unit lighting, and recess lighting with a dimmer switch for adjustable ambience. We also fitted power points for the underfloor heating, mirror, shower pump, and steam generator, ensuring the space is both functional and beautifully illuminated.
