Introduction
Our clients visited our showroom in Perth for inspiration. They were considering a bathroom renovation in Balbeggie, their home, because they were “uninspired” by the current look. Upon entering our showroom, they were excited by the diverse range of bathroom designs and products on display.
Having lived in their home in Balbeggie for many years with an “uninspiring” bathroom, our client sought renovation. They wanted a more relaxing and comfortable space. This will set the tone and colour scheme for their home refurbishment.
After drawing inspiration from our displays, our client enjoyed a coffee while expressing her eagerness to transform the family bathroom, envisioning something truly stunning. We then arranged a survey to measure the space and to gain a better understanding of her style preferences.
Bathroom Renovation Brief
During the survey, our team engaged the client in a relaxed and engaging conversation. We learned details to inform the design of the bathroom renovation in Balbeggie. The clients expressed a desire for a freestanding bath, which would require us to create an appropriate space during the bathroom renovation. She also wanted a luxurious vanity unit but was torn between a single-drawer design and a console-style worktop. Our team outlined the benefits of both options, helping them reach a decision.
While our client liked tiles, she preferred minimal tiling in natural colours and tones, complemented by brass finishes for fixtures and fittings. Inspired by her love for the beach, she envisioned a serene, relaxing bathroom featuring soft lighting and muted colours. During her initial visit, she was particularly drawn to the recesses showcased in our showroom and decided to incorporate a similar feature into her design.
Bathroom Design
Our design process required only two visits to our showroom. Our client was thrilled when she saw her bathroom design for the first time. She praised our designer for creating a space that perfectly aligned with her style. She particularly loved the blue tiles in the shower area and the backsplash behind the bath and basin.
Additionally, she complimented our choice of flooring, adding a natural tone to the bathroom. After reviewing the design, she requested a few tweaks to the fixtures, and we recommended several options that aligned with her vision.
Preparation
To protect her property, we covered immovable items with dust sheets. We also arranged for a skip to be on-site to collect debris as we stripped out the old sanitary ware and tiles, ensuring that proper insulation work could follow seamlessly. As a pet lover, we took extra care to honour her request to keep her cats indoors during the renovation.
Our Bathroom Renovation Approach
After our client approved the design for her new bathroom renovation in Balbeggie, we discussed fixtures and products. Because she desired premium, luxurious bathroom aesthetics, we recommended high-end brands to ensure her space exuded glamour and sophistication. We also suggested incorporating a shower enclosure to create a spacious, practical area.
For the shower enclosure, we selected Crosswater, renowned for its high-quality, durable enclosures that promise longevity. We chose Waters of Ashbourne for her bathtub to achieve the look of a freestanding bath. The vanity unit was designed as a single-drawer console with storage, complemented by a matching worktop from Dansani.
Our client selected a stylish wash basin from Villeroy & Boch to match, along with a HIB Vega mirror featuring adjustable illumination, a demister pad, and a charging socket for added convenience.
A sleek, unobtrusive back-to-wall WC was installed in the window space, allowing for full head height. A concealed cistern is tucked into a bulkhead and topped with a removable worktop. We opted for a Crosswater brushed brass multifunctional shower system for brassware, which perfectly matches the shower enclosure.
In this spacious bathroom, we installed three heated Zehnder towel rails in a Beige Quartz finish featuring brushed brass valves to coordinate with the overall colour scheme while providing ample heat output.
To enhance practicality and ease of cleaning, we used floor tiles with skirting upstands. These complemented the Dansani Natural Oak furniture finish and added to the “beach” style. For the shower area, basin, and bath splashback, our client selected Original Style Montblanc Denim tiles to create a subtle and relaxing colour palette.
Installation Process
We scheduled the bathroom renovation start date with our client and began work as promised. We contacted her the week before to confirm on the start date morning and each morning thereafter, Monday to Friday. In our plumbing work, we modified the entire hot, cold, and drainage systems to ensure compatibility with the new sanitary ware. All pipework was concealed, and accessories were expertly installed.
Our skilled electrician fitted six LED lights and a selection of lighting, which included LED ceiling downlight for ambient light controlled by a dimmer switch. This allows flexibility of atmosphere.
Task lighting was provided at the mirror, and accent lighting was installed in the shower recess and below the vanity unit. This can be used on its own for a relaxing background ambience.
Our experienced joiners fully insulated the room with Kingspan and patched the floors after removing the existing sanitary ware pipes. They thoroughly checked the floor for squeaks and loose boards before installing insulation boards for the tile fixer to work from.
We created a partition in the shower area, allowing for a built-in seating space for added comfort. It included a recess to house shampoo bottles and shower gel.
Our skilled tiler meticulously prepared and waterproofed the shower area before installing tiles to full height in the shower area, the splashback of the basin, and the bath. The tiler’s final task before the sanitary ware installation was to grout, silicone, and polish all the tiles. This left the room pristine and elegant, ready for the final touches.
Challenges
The main challenge faced in this project was the potential delay in shipping the requested brushed brass products, which typically need extra lead time for orders. However, our years of experience ensured that we had planned accordingly, so that any late arrivals of the products did not affect the overall completion timeline of the project.
